Christ gave them an example they could understand. He spoke of the grave. He spoke of what happens to man's body after death when it is buried and laid to rest in the grave which most could understand and visualize. In those times one could smell the stench of death before seeing it. The wind carried it for many miles to let people know they were approaching death. People often died in the open wilderness without being buried. And in those times the Romans crucified people on the cross and left their bodies to rot and decay on the cross as a warning to the people of what could happen to them if they did not obey the Roman laws.
So the people had ample opportunity to see and smell what happened to the body after death. One could imagine the same thing happened inside the grave as took place outside of the grave. Christ calling the Scribes and Pharisees hypocrites, calling them whited sepulchres was very graphic for them to imagine. He wanted them to understand the true nature of their sins. He told them: "But within are full of dead men's bones and of all uncleanness."
They looked good on the outside but on the inside they were full of rotted flesh and dead men's bones. They were nasty, filthy, unclean. They were not worthy to be near. One should be able to smell them from afar as with rotted flesh and dead flesh. Christ wanted to be graphic. He wanted to shock. He wanted to open peoples minds and souls so they would see and believe his message. He even wanted the Scribes and the Pharisees to have the opportunity to change, to hear the new message of forgiveness and repentance. But they were unforgiving. They were lost. They were blind and deaf and could not nor would not hear or see the change that was happening before their eyes.
Where are we today? Are we the same? Are we blind and deaf to the change that is taking place before us. Are things happening that we should be aware of that is going to affect our souls, our beliefs, our faith, our hope in the promise given us by Christ. We have the words of the one true God who does not lie. We have the words of the Son of Man who came down from heaven to walk with us that he might show us how to live, how to love, and how to be free. We have the guidance of the Holy Spirit that lives with us every minute of the day to help us walk the narrow path to the kingdom of heaven. What more could we ask for?
Some believe. Some do not believe. Some will question. Some will ask. Most will continue to walk the path of the world not knowing or believing that there is a God who loves them and wants to provide for all their needs. Yet here we are walking through the phases of life seeking to grasp the riches of the world which are already given to us. We are wealthy beyond all imagination. We are rich beyond all worldly means. We are loved beyond all the love that can be given us from all the people in the world. Yet we believe that we are not. God forgive us. God touch us. God awaken us to know that you are ours and we are yours.

They knew they were correct in their beliefs, their teachings, and their preaching to the people. They had years of experience. They had years of knowledge. They had years of teachings from those who came before them to guide them along the way. Did they heed the messages from the prophets handed down from God? Did they completely understand the mysteries hidden in the writings of the Gospels? Had they strayed away from the true meaning of the message of love given by Christ? Were the Scribes and the Pharisees deserved of the critical scorn given by Christ?
Something was truly wrong for them to have such public scrutiny made of their character and honor. What had they done? What was wrong with them? The people did not really like them. They knew that something was wrong because of the harsh treatment that they received, but did not know why. But Christ looked deep beyond the surface of their exterior and saw the ugliness of what was inside. He told them: "Because you clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but within they are full of robbery and uncleanness."
They were full of robbery and uncleanness inside. The things they did while no one else was looking only Christ could see the ugliness inside and the uncleanness that they carried which made them hypocrites.
What lessons can we learn from them today? Are we living the same hypocritical lives as the Pharisees? Do we dress up the outside and leave the inside full of ugliness and uncleanness, full of robbery and iniquity? We dress up on Sunday and go to church to sing and shout to God in praise and then go out on Monday through Saturday and do the same iniquities all over again. What are we living for? What do we go to church for? Truly we are human and week in our sins but we have a God who is forgiving if we are truly seeking forgiveness hoping to try not to commit the same sin again. We want to clean the inside that we may present ourselves presentable to our Father in Heaven.
We acknowledge that we are sinners. We accept that we are week. We ask for help and the strength to withstand the trials and temptations of evil for surely they will come daily. But we must assure ourselves that with the help of our Father and the help of his Holy Spirit that we can overcome the temptations we face. He will guide us. He will walk with us. He will show us the way. He will carry us until we can walk for ourselves. And when we gain our strength and can stand on our own, he will empower us to fight with him to show others how to become one with him. For together we are one spirit, one body, one person in the Lord Jesus Christ, who has given us the spirit of new life eternal.

Our paragraph topic is: (Woe to the Scribes and Pharisees) Part 4.
Theirs was a grievous crime against the law of God. They were the rulers of the people. They were the religious leaders, the guides for the people. They were supposed to lead the people, to show them the way to the kingdom of heaven. Yet they themselves did not know. They, themselves, did not see. They, themselves, did not open the door to the kingdom so they could enter and go in.
Instead they remained outside. They decided not to enter. They decided that it was better to stay here in the realm of the physical, not enter the spiritual. So if this was good for them it should also be good for the people. And this was their belief according to the influence of evil.
History and their heritage had given them evidence of their God . Writings from their father told of how their God had saved them from destruction and brought them forth from the land of Egypt to the land of milk and honey. But that was so long ago that they had forgotten their beliefs, their foundations, their heritage. And evil came in to take the place of what was given to them from the hand of God himself. For they do not go into the kingdom of heaven: "Nor do you allow those going in to enter."
What is the influence of others in our lives today? How much weight do we give to the beliefs of others? How much wieght do we give to our desire to be accepted by others? Are we willing to allow them to turn us away from what we believe, against our own inner thoughts and beliefs? Are we willing to allow others to influence us to do things that we know is wrong just so that we might be accepted? Do we go along just to go along without any knowledge of where we are going or where we might end up? Do we have the conviction, the inner fortitude to say no to what seems wrong? Being accepted is a strong motivation to change. Being alone is also a strong motivation to cause us to change.
The home is the incubator for us to learn acceptance. We venture out into the world little by little experimenting with accepting ourselves and others in an attempt to fit into the world order. Finally we break our tether with the home environment and go it alone into the world where we experience who we are as individuals. Our home experience will determine where we land in the world and how we are motivated to change. We may find the right places, the right peoples, groups, communities, societies to join that give balance to self. Or we may find that we changeour inner self according to the motivation of what the world presents us as opportunities.
In all of what we experience in the world God waits in the background. Some may have had a foundation in the home environment, others may not. There are those who may have been devoid of any religious or spiritual experience in the home but instead exposed to pain, suffering, and evil. God waits for those too, for we were all brought into this world as his children, created in his image and likeness. He holds our hands. He walks with us. He gives us opportunity to see, to understand, to know him. He wants all his children to know his love. No door is closed if we want to open it. No voice goes unheard if we call out to him. Seek him and he will come to you and comfort your pain and sorrow. He loves all. He knows all. He is all. Be with him, for he is with you.

We now come to the end of the paragraph and the end of Chapter 21. Much of this chapter has been about Christ and his entry into Jerusalem. He came with the praise of the little people, riding on a donkey. The people of the great city did not know him. They did not understand why there was so much of a uproar about this man that no one knew.
Yet it was those who lived on the outside of the city, those little ones who had seen the miracles, heard the words, followed his teachings, that knew him, worshiped him, and praised him as the new leader of the people. He cleansed the temple, taught the people in the temple, and criticized the leaders on their two faced behavior. The leaders rejected the corner stone but it would crush them and ground them to dust. He gave them opportunity to understand. But they could not and would not understand. He spoke in common terms that they would understand. They were blinded, deaf, and were not allowed to understand, until at last the word got through and they were angry. They sought to beat him but: "They feared the people, because they regarded him as a prophet."
We are the sheep and we follow what is given to us. We are given our way of life, how to think, what we believe, who we accept and deny. All of that which we are today is given to us by our surroundings. People live in different environments today all over this earth and have different ways to live, think, behave, and ways of being who they are. People in India may have some similarities to the way people in America think but overall they are entirely different cultures. The environment makes who we are and what we believe. But we have choices. We can change.
Change can come in many forms. It can come through a critical process of thinking, we decide to change without any outside influence. Change can come through a force that causes us to make the decision to do away with our old behavior and adapt a new one because there is pain with the old behavior. Change can come through association with others who we follow that seem to have a better way of living, so we go along with the influence of others. Change can come through enlightenment, a revelation that we have that brings us to a new way of thinking, of believing, of seeing the world.
We can be locked in on our beliefs that change can not be affected. We can be so influenced by our way of life that nothing can bring about change in us because we refuse to believe. We can be blinded by others that their way is better than any change that we may seek, so we remain unchanged. Ultimately the choice is ours to follow. The choice is ours to want to change or not. The option is ours but the opportunity is present for us to see or not to see. The opportunity is there for us to believe or not to believe. The opportunity is present for all because we have a God who loves what he has created and wants all to have the opportunity to experience his love and compassion.
There is so much pain and suffering in the world one has to ask why do we have a God who would allow such suffering to happen. Who are we to question the ways of our Father for he was here before us. He created the universe before we were a thought in his mind. He created the earth and the heavens. He gave life to the world with trees and birds and animals of all sorts. He carved man out of the dust and gave life to him and the spirit of himself that we may have his image within us. It is he that lives through all eternity, even unto today. And it is he that gives all the opportunity because he loves so much that which he has created. The Prophet calls but we must be able to hear his call.

He gave his disciples lessons to live by: lessons on adultery, immorality, and marriage, lessons on bonding, acceptance, and love. They were powerful lessons for them. But as with all things from Christ they took it in until they could understand. They accepted his teachings because he had demonstrated to them that he was special, he was the chosen one, he was the Messiah. There were many strange things that he said and did. They knew that he loved them and wanted them to understand. While all the time in the back of their minds, in the darkest corner of their being there was always that lurking voice speaking to their doubts and their fears.
So they took a rest and all the children came to play. The children had heard their parents talking about him. They had heard about all the miracles. They knew that this man was special because of the way that the others treated him. And they played near him, in his sight, in his presence, not knowing who he was. They wanted to know. They wanted to see up close. They wanted to be with him. So they got closer until they were within his reach. "Little children were brought to him
then that he might lay his hands on them and pray."
They brought the children to him that he might bless them. Parents brought them that he might impart some spiritual healing upon them, that they might grow up knowing that this man affected their lives. Lay hands on them. Pray for them. Teach them that they might know the true meaning of God. We are fortunate, those who grow up in a Christian environments. We are brought to church. We are taught the history of our religion. We are given the essentials of our beliefs that we might have a foundation to grow upon as we encounter the world.
For too many of us, our religion, our beliefs, our faith is based upon what was forced upon us in early childhood. We did not want to go to church. We did not know what we were being given through the many lessons and teachings and preachings. All we knew was that it was required of us. And if we did not obey then we were taught about the wrath of God. We would burn in hell. We would be eternally damned. We would not go to heaven. All of this was given to us at an early age. We would carry these teachings, these thoughts, these beliefs, with us throughout the rest of our lives and pass them on to our children and their children's children.
And yet love was within us, as children. Love was a part of us as little ones. For we loved life. We loved our parents. We loved our brothers and sisters, most of the times. We had the seeds of God's love within us but no one cultivated those seeds that they would bring forth fruit. Are children able to become fruitful? The seed within us was buried deeper. Instead a new seed was planted within us as children, a seed that would set our beliefs on a vengeful Father, a Father of wrath, a God of punishment if we did not obey. Our Father is a God of love. No matter what we do he will still love us.
With understanding, true understanding of who we are in his love, our eyes can be opened, our hearts can beat with a different beat, and we can become aware of the spirit within us. With that awakening we can know the truth of who we are in Christ. With that awakening we are able to receive his love. And the knowledge of his love makes us keenly aware of our sins, our wrongs, our transgressions. Repentance, sorrow, regret comes with knowledge of his love. And like little children we are able to free ourselves from the grips of evil and become once again his children. For He is forgiving. He is merciful. He is loving. He is protective. He is our provider. He is Our Father above all. Open the door and let him lay hands on you that you may become a child again.

Christ was teaching the apostles. They had very little faith. They practically had no faith because of their unbelief. Even though they walked with him daily, eat with him, slept with him, breathed the same air with him, they still did not have the faith to carry on without him. They were children growing up under the protection of their parent. But the time was coming near when they would have to walk on their own. The time was coming near when they would have to talk on their own. The time was at hand when they had to stand on their own and they were only focused on being in his presence now and not on what was coming next.
They needed to believe. They needed to know. They needed to have certainty in their lives that they could depend on at all times. Christ told them that they had little faith. He told them that their faith was less than that of a mustard seed. He wanted them to know that they needed to believe more. He wanted them to have certainty. He wanted them to be able to stand on their own and know that within was something more than just what they were able to see. For with true faith comes certainty. With true faith comes knowledge. With true faith comes the truth of who they were and with that truth nothing would be impossible for them. And he told them:
"If you have faith like a mustard seed.... And nothing will be impossible to you."
Believe and you will achieve. Such a famous motto, such a famous quote, such a strong foundation to build ones life upon. Achieve the stars, the moon, achieve success or anything that the heart desires in this world. For we must be focused. We must have faith in what we want to achieve. We must believe that it is possible and that we can achieve it through our efforts and our strengths. Many a movie star or rock star, or sports star have professed it. Many an executive has spoken it. Many a Billionaire have used this as a their belief system and passed it on to others who would achieve the same goals. Yet is this the meaning of what Christ spoke? Is this the substance of his words?
And nothing will be impossible to you, if only you have the faith of a mustard seed. Humility is a virtue that not many practice. Our world teaches us that we must be bold, we must be aggressive, we must be daring, unflinching, without fear, to achieve our goals. There is no place for the humble in this world. And yet Christ tells us that with faith nothing will be impossible to us. For through our faith in Christ and through our faith in God our father, all things are possible. Shall we achieve our goals for our own vanity, to prove that we are the best? Or through our knowledge and our faith in Christ, believe with the faith of a mustard seed that all things are possible.
Why do we need to prove it? Why do we need to show it? Why do we need to demonstrate something that has been given to us through Christ. If we believe even a tiny bit then we should know who we are in Christ. And in Christ is the father and through the father nothing is impossible.
Heavenly Father, we humbly ask that those who read these words may have their eyes opened, their hearing restored and their hearts filled with your spirit that you may grant to them the light of new life. And it is through the Holy Spirit that they may know the truth of who they are in you. Grant, Father, that they may know the gifts that you have already bestowed upon them so that they will know that nothing in this world can compare to what you have already given them. We pray, Father, that for those who read these words, that they may know and see the light within and know the truth of their spiritual life. Then will they realize the true nature of their being. Come my brothers and sisters! God our Father, is a god of love and it is through his love that these words are written. The door is open. The path is before you. Christ loves you and the Holy Spirit awaits you.

Christ made the demon leave. He cast it out. He returned the child to his father and set the guard to prevent the demon from returning. And the light of Christ shone within the child. The disciples tried to cast it out. They made an effort to remove the demon but it would not obey them, it would not leave. The father pleaded with them for their help. He begged. He knew that it could be done. He heard the word of how others were cured. He saw the ones who were transformed, the ones who were made whole, the ones who had demons that were cast out. And he believed that this could happen for his son also. He had faith in his belief.
The father was persistent. He was demanding. He was unrelenting because he loved his son and he knew that if it could happen to others it could happen for him. He had faith. So he searched, he traveled, he followed the word. He listened to all the talk about Christ and what he had done for others. He believed with certainty that it could happen for his son. He believed with certainty and he had faith. But the disciples did not know. They did not have the certainty in their beliefs, in their faith. So they could not cure him. They asked Christ why they could not cure the boy. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could not we cast it out?" He said to them, "Because of your little faith."
They had little to no faith. They had little to no belief to guide them in their actions. They were not ready to do great things. Yet these were the ones Christ chose to follow him. These were the twelve that he hand picked. They were the chosen ones that the people would follow after Christ returned to his father in heaven. When would they get it? When would they believe? When would their faith increase so that there was no doubt? All plans were in place for the completion of the mission and the training time was coming to an end. When will we get it? When will we believe? When will our faith increase so that there is no doubt?
What is faith? How would we define it: faith is a belief in something? Would we say that faith is a belief that there is a God, that there is a supreme being, that there is something greater than ourselves? The question then becomes: Is this God a loving God? Is this God a caring God? Is this God a protective God? Can we believe in this God? Can we trust this God? What is it that we believe, as we go through life on a daily basis? We are taught that there is a God. We are given the scriptures as a basis for our beliefs. As children we are taken to church and taught in Sunday Bible study about our God from the scriptures of the Bible. Is this enough to guide us through life? Do we continue our beliefs as we grow older and venture out into the world to make our own way?
The world would change our beliefs. The world would turn us away from what we are given as children, as young adults. The world would have us doubt what we are given through the teachings from the scriptures. It would convert us to its way of thinking and lead us away from the commandments of the Bible. The world says the Bible is outdated. The world says the Bible is a book of fiction and not to be believed. The world says do not follow the Bible but follow us and we will reward you with our riches. The world says we will make you happy, we will make you rich, we will fulfill your desires, we will provide for you, we will protect you if you only follow our ways and not the ways of the Bible.
How do we reconcile the difference? How do we come to terms with what the world offers and what we are taught in church? On the one hand we have the world that would offer to fulfill our needs and on the other hand we have the church that would have us believe that our needs will be fulfilled. Do we have the faith to believe? Do we have the faith to know with certainty that our beliefs are true, our hopes are real, and our desires will be fulfilled? Only with certainty will we be able to act. Are you sure? Do you know? Have you discovered the truth of who you are in Christ? Faith is the belief in the desire to be one with Christ, as Christ is one with the Father? Come! Open the door to your heart and become one with he who is one with the Father. And you will know for certain who you are. There will be no doubt. There will be no fear. There will only be you in the truth of Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Our paragraph topic is: (Jesus transfigured) Part 5.
And the voice of God spoke from the bright cloud. The voice spoke to the disciples telling them to hear Christ. God spoke to them telling them that Christ was his beloved son and that he was well pleased with him. They did not know where the voice came from. They did not know how it spoke to them. They did not know how they were hearing this voice. All they knew was that it spoke to them telling them to hear him.
Did they not hear him before? Were they not listening to him all this time? They walked with him everyday. They talked with him everyday. They slept with him, eat with him, listened to him preach, saw him work miracles, everyday. So why did they not hear him? Why did they not listen to him? Why did they not know him in their hearts that God the father had to tell them to hear him? God spoke directly to them, and them only, that they should know the truth of who Christ was. And they heard the voice of God speak to them. But it was this voice that made them tremble. It was this voice that caused them to fear. It was this voice that brought them to their knees and made them fall to their faces with fear. And on
hearing it the disciples fell on their faces and were exceedingly afraid.
Christ loved his disciples. He watched over them. He fed them, made sure that they had food to eat and wine to drink. He protected them from the evil that sought to destroy them. And he nurtured them for they would become the future leaders of the church here on earth and would bear witness to his life, death, and resurrection. But they did not hear him. They were not listening to him. They did not understand him with the knowledge and certainty of a truth taken from the world we live in. It was only after the coming of the Holy Spirit that they knew him with certainty, only after his death and resurrection.
We know with certainty that the wind blows. We know with certainty that the seasons change. It gets cold in the winter and hot in the summer. We know that there is gravity that will cause us to fall from high places. These things and more, we know with certainty because we have experienced them with our bodies. But then there are those things that we do not know with the certainty that we know worldly truths. We believe that Christ lives. We believe that we will come to live with him after we die. We believe that there is a heaven where all God's children will go to, to live for eternity. We know that there is evil in the world because we see it and experience it everyday in our lives. Most of us do not know it directly but hear of it and see it on the news and in the media. We believe that Satan does exist but we do not know it the way we know the things of this world.
The disciples heard God speak of his son. The disciples were told to hear him. The disciples were listening but were not hearing. Why do we not hear today? What stops us from knowing? Can we not know the truth of Christ as we know the things of the world? Is it not possible for us to have the certainty in our beliefs as we have about worldly things. You see, we have our inner beliefs and we have our inner counter beliefs. Evil is in the world and evil influences us from within. We believe the truths that God has given us through Christ Jesus and then we are given doubts. We know within ourselves that Christ lives but evil would have us doubt. Evil would have us disbelieve. Evil would have us not know with certainty Christ Jesus.
With the certainty of the spiritual knowledge of Christ and the life that he has given us, we know no doubt. With the certainty of the truth that comes from the Holy Spirit we know who we are. But evil will plague us. Evil will continue to throw darts. Evil will continue to talk to us and set traps to catch us off guard. For evil wants us to doubt. Evil wants us to question. Evil wants us to ask what if. Evil wants us to not know with certainty who we are in Christ. For with certainty comes power. With certainty comes wisdom. With certainty the light within us is born and we know who we are without doubt, without uncertainty.
Christ knew who he was. Evil knew who he was also and sought to announce to it the world. But Christ would not have his name proclaimed for fame and fortune. He was not of this world and sought not the false riches of this realm. Christ was from the Father and so are we. Yet we do not know who we are or where we are from. And evil would not have us know. God , our father, proclaimed to the disciples to hear his son for they heard so much more. They heard Christ. They heard the people. They heard evil speak to them from within themselves. Just as we do today, they did then. Defend yourself! Stand up to the doubts of evil! Know with certainty that Christ is within you and you are within him. Seek the light given to you, for it is the key that opens the door of the certainty of who you are. Christ told us: "The eye is the lamp of the body and if the eye is sound then the body is full of light." Find your light within and know the truth of who you are in Christ. For certainty is the key to the power that Christ has given you in this life.
Read the sign of the times! Read the Highlighted New Testament Bible and lift the scales from your eyes that you may see, that you may know, that you may find the truth of who you are in Christ. Read it as though you would read a good book, from cover to cover, and see for yourself. Do not study it in parts reading one passage and then skipping to another, but read it for understanding. Read it for knowledge. Read it for faith. Read it that your eyes may be opened, that your ears may hear, that your heart may be filled with the light of Christ. The Holy Spirit awaits you. Christ seeks to know you. Open the door and let him in!
